Centennial School District - 2020 Bond

 

2020 Bond

On May 19, 2020, voters in the Centennial School District approved a $65 million bond, requiring a tax rate of $1.19 per $1000 of assessed property value for bond repayment. Click here to view the ballot measure.

Since the measure was approved, the school district received a matching grant of $7,464,690 from the state. A simple majority was required for the approval of Measure 26-208. The school district will have paid off older bond obligations before these bonds are issued. This means that the property tax to repay the bonds will not increase the existing rate of $1.19 per $1000 of assessed property value. 

 

 

Background: Proposed Bond Projects

The Centennial School District 28J proposed the following projects to be funded by the bond:

  • Repairing and replacing roofs, boilers, foundations, windows and flooring, and other school facility improvements;
  • Upgrading school safety and security systems;
  • Adding gymnasiums to four schools without dedicated gyms; and
  • Repurposing Oliver Elementary back into a middle school, including library, science, locker rooms, and career and technical improvements.

Projects for Each School

    • Safety and security: expanded camera system, new and enhanced intrusion alarms, upgraded IT infrastructure
    • Mechanical repairs and enhancements, including boiler replacement and added digital controls system for energy efficiency and diagnostics
    • Roof and gutter repairs 
    • Exterior painting 
    • Safety & security: new intercom system, access controls, updated and expanded camera system, new and enhanced intrusion alarms, new main entry security vestibule, improved exterior lighting, upgraded IT infrastructure
    • Refinished main gym: wood floors stripped, sanded, repaired, sealed, and striped; striping features a large center court Eagles logo
    • Pool renovations: deck repairs, shell rebuild, plumbing system replacement
    • Heating system repairs, replacement of units no longer serviceable, and added digital controls system for energy efficiency and diagnostics 
    • Replaced or repaired approximately 150,000 square feet of the school’s roofing 
    • Stormwater drainage improvements
    • Replacement of six (6) tennis courts 
    • Resurfaced track 
    • New locker room flooring
    • Two new single user restrooms
    • Safety and security: new main entry security vestibule, intercom replacement, expanded camera system, new and enhanced intrusion alarms, upgraded IT infrastructure, enhanced exterior lighting
    • Nine (9) new science labs 
    • Media center renovation 
    • Extensive ceiling repairs
    • Ventilation and mechanical improvements, including air conditioning in the two-story classroom wing and the addition of a digital controls system for energy efficiency and diagnostics
    • Energy-efficient lighting upgrade in science classrooms, media center, and all corridors
    • Extensive roof repairs
    • Siding replacement on the two-story classroom wing
    • Corridor improvements including floor tile removal and polishing of concrete floors and wainscot wall protection
    • New paint on upper walls and doors
    • Three refurbished gym floors: stripped, sanded, sealed, and striped 
    • Resurfaced track and field event areas, stormwater drainage improvements around track and center of field 
    • Locker room updates

    • Ventilation and heating improvements including steam trap and boiler repairs, improved control heat distribution throughout the school, added digital controls system for energy efficiency and diagnostics

    • Corridor improvements including floor tile removal, polishing of concrete floors, wall coverings, wainscoting and painting of upper walls and doors, ceiling repairs
    • Energy-efficient lighting upgrade in science classrooms, media center, and all corridors

    • Track replacement, field event areas resurfaced
    • Improved stormwater drainage around track and center field, irrigation added to center of field for improved playability and maintenance
