Centennial students learning science in a new way

Students in grades 6 – 8 throughout the Centennial School District are using a new science curriculum called STEMscopes.  Unlike previous curriculum that utilized textbooks, STEMscopes is web-based, so students are using Chromebooks as well as conducting hands-on science experiments in class.

Centennial Middle School science teacher Angela Dickey said, “As a teacher, I greatly appreciate having the resources and supplies now to ‘do’ science on a more regular basis and utilize technology with what students are learning.”

Incorporating technology into science classes is not only more engaging for students, but will also help students to develop technology skills for college and career. Dickey said, “Students feel much more scientific as they enter data on computers while completing labs. The cries of ‘This is really cool!’ and ‘Why is this happening?’ echo throughout my class on a regular basis.”
